Look what the postman brought over the weekend in a very nicely wrapped package. No tapes, just ropes. Neat!

It’s a MacBook battery I bought off eBay for SGD 68.19 including shipping from Hong Kong. This is dirt cheap compared to  SGD 232 for the Apple original battery!

It was disappointing that the battery wasn’t an Apple original because the photo that was posted on eBay showed a original battery. I kinda guessed it though – by the price it was going at, I shouldn’t expect an original.

It doesn’t really matter, since most batteries are made in China nowadays, including the original battery that I took apart last week.

The new battery is rated 56Whr – 1Whr higher than the original. I tested it today while surfing the net, checking e-mails and downloading some stuff off BitTorrent. With the screen set at 50% brightness and Better Energy Savings profile, the new battery ran for approximately 4 to 5 hours.

If I didn’t recall wrongly, this is actually better than the original battery that lasted about 4 hours. However, my tests aren’t scientifically controlled so don’t take my word for it. The new version of MacOS might have made some difference in power savings as well.

Verdict? It’s good to buy your stuff off eBay.
