Hello folks. It has been a long time since I last blogged. I’ve lost touch with the world. Now that I’ve found some time, it’s good to start again. I’ve had quite a lot of ideas I wanted to share, but never had the time to write about them.

I’ve decided to migrate to WordPress for good. My old blog is still available, but I won’t be updating it.

Since I created QQBlogs, why WordPress, some may ask?

Well, I wrote the first version of QQBlogs back in 2002. That’s even before Google bought Blog*Spot. I did a complete code rewrite back in 2005, adding some features and making full use of OO in PHP5. It has not changed much ever since. I have a day job and simply didn’t have the luxury of time to work on QQBlogs.

WordPress has come a long way. Web 2.0 is the new buzzword, and WordPress is full of that. It has an awesome backend interface, lots of features and thousands of awesome templates including this one I’m using right now.

I did check out MovableType, but its requirements were far more complicated than WordPress – running Apache with Perl and cgi-bin on a shared hosting server sounded like Harry Potter wizardry to me.

I also checked out Textpattern but it didn’t support spontaneously uploading and embedding graphics like WordPress did.

So WordPress it shall be.

Anyway, I won’t be shutting QQBlogs down unless I lose my job, run out of cash, and can’t afford to co-locate my servers anymore.

Well, here’s a super summarized version of what happened to my life ever since I last blogged.

I’ve gotten married. That’s the biggest thing so far. Thanks to all who made it happen. It was a great day. For those who weren’t invited, stay tuned for the chinese wedding. I think that shall be next year. I couldn’t invite everybody otherwise it would be never ending. Wedding and house aren’t cheap and I had a budget to work on, so I hope you’d understand.

I’ve been at my new job for almost a year. It’s pretty interesting. I’m working closely with one of Singapore’s largest ISP now. It gives good insight of things that work behind the scenes – if you think it’s an easy job being an ISP, maybe it’s time to think again. There’s about 10+ gbps of total streaming FLV (YouTube, etc.) traffic almost all day long. P2P users aren’t helping at all either.

I bought a Digital SLR just before Chinese New Year. It’s an Olympus E-420. Though it isn’t the best SLR out there, it certainly was the cheapest. I finally realized I shouldn’t waste my money on those “prosumer” cameras anymore.

The house is on its way. The floor was hacked last week, and electrical wires were done. We engaged a new Interior Design firm who’s willing to use us as a design portfolio. Since they are new, I will post the renovation’s progress here, hopefully to help with their business if they do a good job. I believe building this kind of business rapport is important and usually goes a long way.

That said, stay tuned for more updates.
